ROUTE DESCRIPTION
Leaving from “Il faro del Castelluccio” you go on to Montescudaio, with fast and broad curves.
After the road becomes flat and quiet and you can rest until Guardistallo, where it begins to clumber up again with very fast but open curves.
After Montescudaio you arrive at Casale Marittimo, very nice place, perfect for a little rest.
The road goes then to Bibbona from where the most picturesque part of this trip begins, the so called “via bolgherese”, up to the fascinating town called Bolgheri, all surrounded by the most famous vineyards of Italy (Sassicaia and Ornellaia).
Bolgheri is another place where you can stop for a typical Italian snack.
You leave again now to drive along the famous Carducci’s road ““i cipressi che a Bolgheri alti e schietti van da San Guido in duplice filar”, until the crossroads to Castagneto Carducci. This part is slow but shadowy and poetic.
From castagneto you go on to San Vincenzo on the old Aurelia road which is not very busy and for this reason pleasant because of the big plane-trees.
From the city center of San Vincenzo, next step is the little village of San Carlo from where you can have a splendid view of the entire valley until the coast.
From here you go down to San Bortolo to catch again the old Aurelia street but only for one Kilometre, before turning right to Pricipessa street. On this street you will arrive to Baratti, driving along the entire Rimigliano park, direction Piombino.
At the crossroad to Baratti do not hesitate to turn right to enter the poetic Golfo degli Etruschi with the road that goes on until Populonia where you can appreciate a spectacular view of the Val di Cornia.
Now the trip is almost at the end and it is time to go to Venturina for a break in the thermal waters of Caldana.
Then you go to Suvereto, very typical medieval village, famous for its pigskin fair.
Then passing though Prata the road goes on to Sassetta up to 300 mt altitude.
Once you have passed Sassetta you need to back to S.P. 329 to the Fringuello and Scoiattolo homes and Sole e Luna cottage, Faro del castelluccio village.
